Verna D. Barkow, 83, of Edgar, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Please join the family for a visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Verna was born October 9, 1941 to Alvin and Elsie (Deppe) Timm in Davenport, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Colby Schools. Verna married Orville Barkow on August 27, 1960 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2019.
During Verna's younger years, she enjoyed bowling and going to rummage sales. She worked at Edgar Basket Factory for many years and spent her spare time shooting pool with her husband, Orville. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family whenever she had a chance. Verna was very outgoing and enjoyed polka dancing, playing solitaire, doing word searches and spending a lot of her time with family. Her passion in life was her beloved cat and five dogs. She was considered the mother hen of the family and proudly announced it to the world when wearing her t-shirt.
Verna is lovingly survived by her sisters: Joanne Welsh, of Greely, IA, Carol (Rick) Bolsinger, of Garber, IA, Connie Geiger, of Dorchester, WI and Karen (Steven) Kunze, of Colby, WI, as well as a brothers in law: Clarence Barkow, of Mt. Pleasant, TX. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one sister, Nelda and three brothers: Wayne, Leslie and Arlan.
