Verna Clor Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 26, 2026.
Verna Rose Clor passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 24, at the age of 92, having gone home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Known for hands that were never idle, Verna was a devoted gardener. Her garden was a sanctuary filled with vibrant flowers and homegrown vegetables which she loved to share with family and friends. In recognition of her passion and talent, Verna was honored with a Sterling Heights Beautification Award for her garden.

Verna was also an accomplished quilter and seamstress, creating "homemade love" in every stitch. Each quilt she made was a mosaic of memories, a labor of patience, and a gift of warmth to family, friends, and various charities.

An avid reader, Verna could often be found in her favorite chair, immersed in stories and savoring a quiet afternoon. A true homebody, she found her greatest joy in simple pleasures and the comfort of home.

Verna was a woman of deep faith and is now at rest with loved ones who went before her, including her parents, Bernard and Wanda Sawielski, two sisters, three brothers, and one beloved grandson.

She is survived by her children, Linda Clor; Gloria (Arnie) Abrott; Marsha (Roger) Marshall; and Lisa (John) Flanigan; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in her memory. https://www.cskdetroit.org/en/donate/monetary-donations/

Verna will lie in state on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ephrem Catholic Church, 38900 Dodge Park Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Following the Mass, Verna will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, Michigan.

I will miss Verna so much we had a bond that I didn´t have with anyone else. She was strong minded and had an amazing will for life. I will miss our visits and our phone conversations. She loved keeping her yard beautiful and I loved seeing her out tending to her yard. She loved golfing and she was very good at it. When I would be having a bad day or going through a hard time she would also say to me. "Let Go and Let God"
