Grand Rapids Cremation Services - Grand RapidsVerna Lyon, age 74, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Haven of Rest in Shiawassee County.
Verna was raised in Ovid, Michigan. She dedicated nearly 30 years as Administrator to the Dean of Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University. It was during her time at MSU that she became a proud and enthusiastic Spartan fan. In 2015 she retired and, with her life partner Randy, made many lasting memories.
Verna’s proudest achievements were her daughters, Erica and Molly. Above all, nothing brought her more joy and fulfillment than when she was promoted to Grandma to Conner and Charley Call, a role that filled her heart with immeasurable love and happiness.
She is survived by her loving family: her daughters, Erica (Josh) Brown and Molly (Duane) Call; her life partner Randy Byrnes; her two grandchildren, Conner and Charley Call; and two grand fur babies, Ruby & Rip. She is also survived by her siblings, Bev (Gary) Kurka, Rita Lyon, and Mike Lyon; her nieces and nephews, Kristyn Kurka, Karyn (Josh) Tuma, Mike Kurka, Jon (Miranda) Kibby, Ben (Danielle) Kibby; and 8 great-nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Gwenivere, and her sister, Sandra Lyon.
A life celebration will be held at the Ovid VFW Hall Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haven of Rest in Shiawassee County.
