Vernell Rideaux

Vernell McFarland Rideaux, 79, of Houston, Texas native of Jasper, Texas transition to glory Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Vernell McFarland was born November 25, 1945 in Jasper, Texas to the union of
Willie Mae and Willie Gervis McFarland, Sr. She was the ninth child that blessed
this family. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Armstrong
Memorial CME Church. She united under her Christian discipleship with McGee
Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter K. Berry and was an
ardent and faithful member until her health failed.
On October 7, 1961 she united in Holy Matrimony to Howard Harris, to this union
five children were born. Vernell later married Henry Rideau in 1983 no children
were born to this union. She loved caring for the sick and received her LVN license
from Lamar Tech, Beaumont, Texas in 1970. She always exhibited a bubbly
personality and lively attitude, which was adored by her patients. Vernell was a
loyal and dedicated nurse for over 30 years; retiring in 1992 from St. Lukes
Hospital, Houston, Texas.
When she was not caring for others or battling unfortunate illnesses, you would
find her preparing gourmet meals for her family and watching her favorite sports
teams.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, after a long and courageous fight with illness,
Vernell McFarland Rideaux transitioned into the arms of her Heavenly Father.
Vernell was preceded in death by her parents and siblings - Evelyn Traylor, Annie
Clyde Louviere, Mae Autry, Lexie McFarland, Linda Gale Murrey, Betty Ruth
Anderson, Bernice Elia, and Lewis Alford McFarland and son Gary McFarland.
To cherish her precious memory are siblings - Willie Gervis McFarland, Jr. (Carol)
Jasper, Texas, Charles Henry McFarland (Claudette) West Covina, California, and
Cherrie Filyaw (Clarence) Humble, Texas. She will forever be loved and missed by
her caring and devoted children and grandchildren – Andrea Armstrong (Anthony)
Richmond, Texas, Quince Harris (Germaine) Richmond, Texas, Tasha Harris Tulsa,
Oklahoma, and Corey Harris (Yolanda) Beaumont, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 22
great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
