Vernon Gisel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral Home - Webb City on Mar. 24, 2025.
Vernon Le Roy Gisel, age 96 of Neosho, passed away on March 22, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1928, in Carthage. Vernon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a dedicated Case Analyst for the Missouri Division of Family Services, where he provided assistance to families in need. He served his community as a minster for over 50 years. His work in the community and his steadfast faith in God were the cornerstones of his life. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve," Mark 10:45, was a verse Vernon lived by daily.
Vernon was the beloved husband of the late Twylla Gisel, whom he married on August 5, 1950, and cherished until her passing in 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion through his sons, David (Tammy) Gisel of Clinton, and Daniel Gisel of Neosho. He was a grandfather to Kellie (Aaron) Hooper of Grain Valley, Shelly (Marty) Nauyok of Kansas City, Phillip (Heather) Gisel of Spring Hills, KS, and Stephen Gisel of Neosho. He was a great grandfather to five. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Bessie Gisel. He was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom to his family. As author Leo Tolstoy once said, "The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity," and Vernon embodied this truth throughout his life.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, March 26th at Prairie Flower Bible Church in Webb City with Pastor Dave Ernst. A graveside service will follow at Friends Cemetery in Purcell. Those honoring Vernon's life by serving as pallbearers are: David and Daniel Gisel, Stephen Gisel, Greg Crowdson, John Kimbrough, Garrell Murray, and Jim McBee, with Don Hood serving as an honorary bearer.
Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of Vernon. As we remember the love and kindness he bestowed upon us, may we continue his legacy of service and love for one another.
