Vernon Ray Shourd, 89, of Searcy passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, in Searcy. He was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to the late John Jacob and Ludie Allen Shourd.
Vernon was a God-fearing Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a member of Searcy First Assembly of God.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick (Kathy) Shourd, Dianna (Kenny) Meeks, Kay (Scott) Williams all of Searcy and Jon (Cathy) Shourd of Conway; brothers, Jim (Juanita) Shourd of Searcy, Lonnie Shourd of Tenn.; sisters, Brenda Rutledge of Oklahoma and Ruth Ann Bennett of Searcy; brother-in-law, Don (Pat) Baugh of Searcy; nine granddaughters, Kendra (Tommy) Hollingshead and Kayla Meeks of Searcy, Tiffany (Brandon) Barrentine of Bald Knob, Erica (Kiefer) Keichline of Searcy, Rachel (Adam) Dowell of Texas, Emily (Ladd) Rodgers of Searcy, Abby Shourd and Haley Shourd of Conway, Sophie Shourd of Searcy; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Also left to cherish his memory are his step-grandchildren, Scott (Arlana) Armstrong, Jimmy (Amanda) Meeks, Kristin (Lance) Langston, Marcus Knight, Bo (Lydia) Williams, and Beth (Brad) Davis: 13 step-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Pat Baugh Shourd; brother, Allen Wayne (Bill) Shourd and sisters, Virgie Gordon and Glenda Harris.
Vernon married Peggy Cross on Feb. 14, 2013. They were married for four years. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2017. He is survived by two stepsons, Wade (Debbie) Cross and Randy (Tammy) Cross.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at the Searcy First Assembly of God with visitation to begin prior to services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Searcy Faith Assembly Cemetery.
