Vernon was born in Port Arthur, Texas on a cold winter day December 10, 1932, to mother and father, Ella Smithson and Vester Knox Travis. As he grew into adulthood he met and fell in love with Dorothy Holder. He officially made her a Travis on August 16, 1953, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Vernon worked as a full time Christian pastor after graduating from Tennessee Temple Bible School but, also dabbled in education and was a teacher and school administrator. In his free time, he had a passion for wood working, puzzles and love to dive deep into books and was known to be an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children, Kent (Renee), Bruce, Paige Wolfkill (Michael); grandchildren, Daniele VanHorn (David), Kain (Beth), Jennifer Williams (Timothy), Carol Gaston (Michael), Barrett (Kayte), Hannah Snyder (Stephen), David Wolfkill. The Lord has also blessed Vernon and Dorothy with 13 great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by his brother Rondald Travis (Nicki) and many nieces and nephews.
On behalf of the family, in lieu of flowers they would like donations to be made to Boulevard Baptist Church Mission Fund.

He was a gentle man who always greeted me with a smile. I loved listening to him teach- he was a scholar of the Bible and was able to finally give me the answer to at least one question I had asked every Baptist minister I encountered. He will be missed greatly. My love and prayers go out to Sis Dorothy and all of Bro Vernon“s family.
