Vernon Carl Tyree

 

TYREE, Vernon - Age 87, of Fenton, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023.  Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Linden United Methodist Church, 201 S. Bridge St., Linden.  Pastor Robert Easlick officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.  Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 East Broad Street, Linden. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.  Those desiring  may make contributions to Linden United Methodist Church.  

Vern was born July 28, 1936 in Black Rock, AR, the son of Raymond and Beulah (Leaf) Tyree.  He was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp.  He married Joan Rae Carpenter January 13, 1984 in Mt. Morris. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Harding University of Searcy, AR and a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University.  Vern had been employed by the Flint Journal as a reporter and photographer and he retired from Genesee Intermediate School District as a Administrator.  He had resided in Fenton since 1987. He was a former member of the Fenton V.F.W. Curtis Wolverton Post.  Vern and his family were very active in the Blue Grass Music scene.  He attended Linden United Methodist Church and was instrumental in recording the Sunday services for Facebook postings. 

Surviving are: his wife, Joan; children, Deborah Cleary of Flint and Howard Tyree of Midland; step children, Clark Harner of Traverse City and Jeffrey (Marissa) Harner of Alabama; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Clark; and 8 siblings.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
