Veronica Hecht, 86, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the Faribault Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30am Friday, January 23, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, Minnesota. A visitation will begin at 10:00am prior to the service. A burial will take place at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow burial.
Veronica Rose Hecht was born on June 9, 1939, near Morton, Minnesota, the eldest of fourteen children of Benedict and Marie (Eisenbarth) Sullivan. She graduated from Morton High School in 1957, furthering her education at St. Mary's Hospital Nursing Program in Rochester becoming an LPN.
On June 11, 1960, Veronica was united in marriage to Charles (Chuck) Hecht in St. John's Catholic Church in Morton. They adopted Ellie and then were blessed with the births of Charlie, Paul and Kyle. The first 33 years of their married life took them to many communities including: Edgemont, SD, Crawford, NE, Falls City, NE, Central City, IA, Lanesboro, MN, Preston, MN, Ocheydan, IA, Lansing, IA, Winona, MN, Ash Fork, AZ, Williams, AZ, Flagstaff, AZ and then Camp Verde, AZ.
In 1993, Veronica and Chuck moved to rural Battle Lake to their home on Crane Lake. Veronica became a licensed massage therapist offering her services in the Battle Lake area. Chuck passed away on February 10, 1998 and Veronica remained in the Battle Lake area.
She enjoyed spending time with people and always had a story or a joke ready to share. You could find her playing card games, knitting, cardmaking, reading romance novels or doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed the arts and sang with musical groups throughout the years, including Sweet Adelines. Veronica was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and an associate member of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN.
Veronica is survived by her children, Eleanor (Paul) Wilder of Faribault, Charles Benedict Hecht of Minneapolis, Paul (Kendell Schmitz) Hecht of Loretto, and Kyle (Nicole Stewart) Hecht of Clitherall; by her ten grandchildren, Louis (Sarah Jo), Sarah, Teresa, Emily and Monica Wilder, Alexandra and Anna Hecht, Thayer Hecht, Gavin and Sophie Schmitz, and by her siblings Dennis (Patty) Sullivan of Farmington, Patrick (Cindy) Sullivan of Coon Rapids, Kathleen (Jonathan Mitchell) Sullivan of Centerville, Virginia, Mary (James Kanne) Sullivan of Franklin, David (Debbie) Sullivan of Redwood Falls, Richard (Linda) Sullivan of Belview, Kevin (Dory) Sullivan of Burnsville, Jean (George) Meinz of St. Cloud, Donna Barrett of St. James, Betty (Ron) Cramer of Fairbanks, Alaska, Teresa (Bob) Noyes of Porter, and two sisters-in-law Beverly Swift and Jean Sullivan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, two brothers, Gerald and Stephen Sullivan, two brothers-in-law Mike Barrett and Larry Hecht.
