Vesta Bisbee Obituary

VESTA BISBEE

Chesterfield, MA - Chesterfield-Vesta (Betty) M. (Thomson) Bisbee, age 97, died peacefully at Day Brook Village in Holyoke on Saturday, December 31. Betty was born on August 21, 1925 in Chadron, Nebraska the daughter of Andrew and Mabel (Scott) Thomson. She attended school in both Clearwater, Nebraska and Worland, Wyoming before leaving home for Rapid City, South Dakota. There she met and married Capt. Charles Allen Bisbee Jr. who was serving in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. After the War, they moved to Allen's home town of Chesterfield to raise their family and live a full and happy life in their beautiful home on Stage Road for the next sixty years.

Betty spent her life "doing." In her more active years she was the director of the Hampshire County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. As a member of the Chesterfield Congregational Church, Betty was a Deaconess, prepared the church bulletin, served as a member of the Trustees, and coordinated the famous "Big Bake" for many years. For a number of years, she also served as an associate member of the Church of the Painted Hills in Tucson, Arizona. She was a member of the Chesterfield, Pomona, and State Grange, and a member of the Cummington Post 304 American Legion Auxiliary, serving in many offices during her time with them. She also volunteered at Cooley Dickinson hospital for more than 25 years.

Betty spent her later life enjoying her family, rooting for her beloved Red Sox and spending winters with her husband in Tucson, AZ. She was an avid reader, cat lover, and enjoyed putting on pie and apple dumpling dinners for her family. She was also a life-long supporter of many charities including the Jimmy Fund and Native American charities benefitting children in the Midwest and Arizona.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Andrew and Mabel (Scott) Thomson, her husband Charles A. Bisbee Jr., her brother John S. Thomson (K.I.A. in Alaska during WWII), and her great-grandson Thomas C. Bisbee. Betty is survived by her children Kathie (Jim) Brisbois of Chesterfield, John (Marylou) Bisbee of Chesterfield, and Carolyn Bisbee of Bath, Maine. Grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Hecht, James (Heather) Stewart, Will (Kenya) Stewart, Ian (Eliza) Stewart, Scott (Jennifer) Bisbee, Lisa Bisbee, Jeremy (Rebecca) Brisbois, Nathan (Hope) Brisbois, and Shannon Brisbois. Great-Grandchildren: Alden, Maggie, Andrew, Payton, Avery, Ellory, Oliver, Miles, Colby, and Max. Along with a large extended family.

A graveside service and celebration of life will be scheduled for some time in the spring.

Because Betty's heart was so big and her charities were so vast, her family asks that if you would like to honor her memory in some way, to please make a donation in her name to a charity close to your heart.
