Vicki Ely

Her Legacy… Vicki Ruth Ely, 78, passed away January 12, 2026. She was born on January 4, 1948, in Jackson, Michigan to Dewayne Ketchum and Thelma (Wilson) Ketchum. Vicki married the love of her life, Bernard Ely, June 5, 1971, in Jackson, Michigan. Vicki graduated high school in 1966. After High school she went to Western Michigan University, she graduated in 1970 with a degree in Art. She then went off to Eastern Michigan to obtain her master's degree in interior design in 1973. She was a teacher at Willow Run High School where she taught home economics and art. She left teaching in the late 80's. Vicki was a sailboat mom and a hockey mom who loved racing sailboats in the 70's. Vicki was a wonderful mother who adored her grandchildren. Vicki loved crafts and was an outstanding cook. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Her Family… Vicki will be missed by her husband, Barney Ely; her son, Patrick (Brooke) Ely; sister-in-law, Andrea Oetjens; brother-in-law, Jerre Oetjens; grandchildren, Noah, Parker, Beckham; nephews Jason (Amy) Oetjens, Craig (Sheena) Oetjens, and Michael (Michelle) Oetjens. She is preceded in death by her parents Dewayne and Thelma Ketchum, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew and Veta Ely.
Her Farewell… Vicki's Community Farewell will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 7:00PM (3:00PM-7:00PM gathering), at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Hamburg, Michigan. Pastor Dan Quagliata will serve as celebrant. Her burial will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00AM, at Fifield Cemetery, Jackson, Michigan.
