Vicki Franey Sims, 77, of Owensboro, passed away on December 8, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded by her beloved daughters. Born on January 28, 1947, in Owensboro, she was one of nine children of the late Walter Thomas "W.T." and Helen Froehlich Franey. After an extended battle with Alzheimer's, Vicki now rests in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to family.

Vicki was a devoted member of Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and a proud Owensboro Catholic High School graduate. After earning her degree from Western Kentucky University, she worked as a Head Start teacher. Vicki spent most of her career working at Franey’s Food Mart, where she never met a stranger; she worked there alongside her family in various roles, including store manager and running the post office. Her dedicated service continued until she retired from Franey's at the age of 70.

Vicki lovingly referred to her three daughters as "my girls." She was involved in all aspects of their lives, driving them to practices, games, competitions, and Brownie troop meetings. Even after her daughters made their homes in Lexington, she continued to show the same steadfast support for her grandchildren.

She raised her children in the Catholic faith and cherished every moment spent with family. Vicki's happiest times were those surrounded by family, gathered under one roof. She was happy to lend a hand and do whatever she could to support those in need. She loved her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and cousins dearly and treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. For her, fun and togetherness were at the heart of family life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence "Larry" Franey.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Stephanie Sims Doom (Joey), Shellie Sims Hampton (Steve), and Shannon Sims O'Bryan (Neil); grandchildren, Sarah Doom; Jackson, Noah, and Katherine Hampton; and Ava, Will, Maggie, and Nace O'Bryan; siblings, Tom Franey (Donna), Gail Franey Rusk (Bob), Alice Franey Hays (Mike), Van Franey, Bill Franey, Keith Franey (Cathy), and Lee Franey; sister-in-law, Becky Franey, and a whole host of loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass for Vicki Sims will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 13, 2024, at Saints Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 4:30.
