Vickie was known for her infectious personality and dedication to her family, friends, and community. Vickie's fierce independence was one of her defining features. At the time of her husband's leukemia diagnosis, she pursued her social work degree, all while providing medical care to Steve and raising her two thriving children-often commuting several hours a day. In addition to earning top grades, she cared for her family and maintained an immaculate house. The choice to pursue her education was for the betterment of her children and she serves as inspiration for any who knew her. She graduated with her Associate's Degree from Mineral Area College, Bachelor's Degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and Master's Degree from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Vickie became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and served as the Director of Social Services at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital for many years. She proudly established a pet-assisted therapy program, worked diligently to establish best practices, and loved working with children. She loved life and lived every moment to the fullest. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her unconditional love of her family, friends, and pets, strength, and perseverance--consistently beating the odds. In addition to overcoming 2 cancer diagnoses (lymphoma age 23, breast cancer age 71), she survived 5 heart valve replacements, including the first in-human transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement via partial thoracotomy, transforming cardiac care and improving outcomes for individuals impacted by heart disease.
For many years she served as an officer for the National Association of Social Workers to help ensure the integrity of her profession. She was a former member of the NESS board ensuring support for victims of abuse. She was also a member of the VFW auxiliary.
