Vickie Jane Bowen Yarbrough passed away suddenly in her home January 13, 2025.
Vickie was preceded in death by her infant son, Robert Malcolm Yarbrough; and her parents, Haywood and Alberta Bowen.
Vickie was a band and Beta Club member graduating from Ketron High School in 1965. She graduated from ETSU in 1969 with a BS and later added a master’s degree and gained recognition as an educational specialist.
She spent her career as an educator, progressing from classroom teacher to school principal. Her passion was for teaching children to read. She loved birds, sewing, and traveling. She was currently learning to weave.
While living in Charlotte she was an active member n the University City Methodist Church as well as a choir member. She lived in North Carolina until she retired, moving her home to Piney Flats.
Survivors include daughter, Katherine Jane Yarbrough; sister, Frances Bowen; brother, Joey Bowen; nephews, Andy Bowen and Adam Bowen; niece, Sarah Hayes; three great-nephews, Oliver Bowen, David Hayes, Bowen Hayes; and great-niece, Tegan Hayes.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00am at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Pastor, Scott Spence officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
