Vicky Barnes Obituary

Vicky Lea Barnes
Vicky Lea Barnes, 76, passed, surrounded by family, on January 18, 2026, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. She is the loving wife of Walter Barnes. Vicky was born in Calais, Maine, on October 27, 1949, to the late Merlin and Phyllis (Cooley) Varney.
Vicky graduated from Maloney High School in 1968 and went on to become the most incredible wife, nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother there ever was--her primary goal in life achieved. Upon Walter's return from Vietnam (U.S. Army), they were married and relocated to Savannah, Georgia, to begin their life together. Vicky and Walter celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage in 2025. Over those years, they took great joy in raising three amazing children and building a close-knit family.
Vicky retired as a buyer at Wesgarde, in Hartford, after 21 years. She was always a loving grandma, making a point to attend school events and extra-curricular activities. She consistently supported her grandchildren with her entire being, no matter what endeavor they pursued.
Vicky found joy in being with her family, crocheting and coloring, playing cards, shopping, watching "Gunsmoke," and making the best chocolate-covered cherries. Vicky is known for many things, but mostly her strong will and compassion, apple pie, and overwhelming love for everyone in her life. Her family lives on knowing they continue to have her undying and unconditional love and support. She left her family a note, saying, "If ever comes a day we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I will be there forever."
Besides her loving husband, Walter, and furry companion, Murphy, Vicky is survived by her children, Jayne Sause and her husband, Steve, William Barnes, Ryan Barnes and his wife, Eileen; her grandchildren, Leah and Lara Sause, Tristyn and Charlotte Barnes, and Justin Brush and his wife, Brianna; sister-in-law, Jane Barnes; brother-in-law, Timothy Tyler; great-grandchildren, Colton and Everly Brush; and several nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Vicky was predeceased by her sister, Gloria; brother, Ronald; niece, Christine; and sisters-in-law, Karen Tyler and Diane Varney.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 24th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home in Wallingford. A Funeral Service will begin at 12 PM, followed by interment at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vicky's name may be made to the CT Humane Society.
