Victor Floyd Burgess, 81, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. On this day, he was reunited with the love of his life, Judi, who passed away on the same date in 2021-a poignant reflection of their enduring bond.

Born in Cadillac, Michigan, Victor entered the world on May 24, 1944, to the late Victor Burgess and Lorna (Russell) Burgess. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962, where he served with pride and dedication for 21 years as a radioman. His military career took him across the globe, ultimately leading to his retirement in Aiea, Hawaii, in 1983.

In 1993, Victor and his family relocated to West Des Moines, Iowa, where he embarked on a second career as an over-the-road truck driver. He continued driving until his final retirement in 2013, embracing the open road with the same spirit of adventure that defined his life.

Victor was a man of simple joys and deep connections. He cherished weekends at the beach, bodyboarding with his children, and exploring nature through camping, hiking, and zoo visits. His love for animals was evident in the lively household he maintained-always filled with dogs, cats, and the occasional fish, bird, mouse, or guinea pig. A natural conversationalist, Victor had a gift for making friends wherever he went, leaving lasting impressions with his warmth and humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leslie.

Victor is survived by his sister, Cynthia Jo (Ron) McDaniel of Point Pleasant, WV; his daughters, Terri (Jose) Abella of Waipahu, HI and Kathy (Daniel) Sisson of Manton, MI; and his stepchildren, Jay (Amy) Anderson of Las Vegas, NV, Scott Anderson of Wilmington, DE, Amy Roppe of Greer, SC, Troy (Jamie) Anderson of West Des Moines, IA, and Todd (Emily) Anderson of Simpsonville, SC. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Nala.

In accordance with Victor's wishes, no formal service will be held. His cremated remains will be lovingly spread in McGregor, Iowa-beside Judi's-in June 2026, during a private ceremony with family and close friends.
