Victor Clemo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farewell Funeral Service - Palm Bluffs on Sep. 11, 2024.
Victor Robert Clemo of Fresno, California passed away on September 9th at the age of 99. He was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on September 23, 1924. In the 1930's, he moved with his mother, Alice Shimek Clemo and sister, Shirley Clemo to San Francisco where his mom married Joseph Rose, who would be an amazing father to both Vic and his sister. In 1937, they were among the first to walk across the newly constructed Golden Gate Bridge. He graduated from Lincoln High School in San Francisco where he excelled in sports like track, tennis, and baseball. He also dabbled in drama. This may have contributed to his regular attendance at plays and musicals at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater. It was extra special when his daughter Vickie or granddaughter Megan were on stage.
At the age of 19, he was sent to Europe to serve his country during World War II. He served in the Army V Corps 20th Division and helped liberate France. While in England, he met Lynn George. They married in 1947 and in 1949, welcomed their daughter Vickie Lynn.
He served a few years with the Department of Forestry before beginning a career at United Grocers in the Bay Area. He eventually transferred to Fresno where he married the love of his life, Kathy and became a loving father, for a second time, to her young daughter, Shirley. His daughters Vickie and Shirley gave him five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He loved taking photos and videos. His home was the center of activity during the summer when he would barbecue while his family had fun in the pool or played croquet on his well-maintained yard. He loved golf, and when he retired, he often played with friends at Riverside Golf Course where he became a marshal. He also enjoyed traveling, social media, corresponding via email with friends and family, and, especially, family get-togethers. He would often visit Santa Cruz, where his daughter Shirley and family live. He and Kathy went on several cruises including two FOUR-generation family cruises. They also traveled to Europe, Central America, and the East Coast with daughter Vickie and her husband Don. In 2015, Vic and Vickie traveled to Washington DC on the Central Valley Honor Flight which provides veterans a day at our nation's memorials to experience the honor, gratitude, and community of support they deserve.
Vic was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Shimek, his mother-in-law, Frances Sea, his sister, Shirley Haynes, and his beloved daughter, Vickie Leet. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy Clemo, daughter, Shirley MacKenzie (husband Phil), son-in-law, Don Leet, granddaughters, Sara Sitton and Megan Logan (husband Vince), grandsons, Andrew Leet (wife Sarah), Christian Belmonte, and James MacKenzie, as well as 10 great grandchildren, Conner Sitton, David Sitton, Jack Sitton, Nicholas Logan, Nathan Logan, Paisley Logan, Benjamin Leet, William Leet, Evelyn Leet, and Rose Leet.

I am so saddened to hear about Vic's passing. He was my neighbor for several years and was the nicest, kind man. My prayers are with Vic and his family. God is getting a good one!
