It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor C. Kerkman, who left this world on December 5, 2025, at the age of 81. He was a current resident of Newark, IL, and a former resident of Oswego, IL. Born on January 3, 1944, in Burlington, Wisconsin, Victor was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather.
Victor was the son of Victor H. and Eleanor Kerkman. He grew up with a deep appreciation for the land and animals, which was evident from a young age when he tended to 53 milking cows on his family farm. This love for farming shaped his life and character, instilling in him a strong work ethic and a profound respect for nature and all living creatures.
Throughout his life, Victor was known for his unwavering commitment to his family and community. He was married to his beloved wife, Julie A. (nee Prailes) Kerkman, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Together they raised three sons: Jeffrey (Renee), Scott, and David (Jennifer), who brought him immeasurable joy. Victor took great pride in his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren: Ashleigh (Ryan) Foley, Kelsie Kerkman, Laurel Kerkman, Annaliese Kerkman, and Tessa Kerkman. He was also a doting great-grandfather to Knox Foley and Eleanor Foley, whose smiles brought light to his days.
Victor's spirit extended beyond his family; he was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Plano, Illinois.
In his spare time, Victor enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his zest for life. He loved playing cards and spent many peaceful hours fishing. One of his unique passions was caring for the buffalo at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, an endeavor that brought him immense joy. An ardent sports fan, he cheered passionately for his beloved Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs, often bonding with friends and family over thrilling games and shared victories.
Victor is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his sons, Jeffrey (Renee), Scott, and David (Jennifer); and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry his legacy forward. He is also survived by his sisters, Marilyn Lichter and Ruth Ketterhagen, and brother, Keith Kerkman. Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters Arlene Siehoff, Rose Essman, and Evelyn Breiling.
Victor C. Kerkman's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. His kindness, love, and dedication to family and friends will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love he so freely gave to others.
