Vic Locke (or Pops) took his final ride on August 6 , 2024, at ComfortCare Homes in Wichita Kansas with his daughter and wife holding his hands by his side. Indian flute music was played in the background to make his transition so peaceful. He was born on May 17, 1940 to Victor and Aladayne Locke in Coffeyville, Kansas.

He was a “free spirit” coming from his Cherokee Native American heritage, which he was so proud of. Being a strong individual, he wore his long ponytail with pride even though with a continual vocal objection was heard from his better half. He was a true outdoor person enjoying riding many of his motorcycles and appreciating the beautiful scenery that our country has to offer. He loved nature around him from the birds singing to the natural majestic paintings in the sky. He enjoyed endless trips down country roads with his grandchildren and taking them fishing in his friend’s ponds.

He lived for riding his Harley on the open highway and feeling the wind in his hair. He and mom took several road trips across the country, and he looked forward to his annual trip to Sturgis with his friends. Vic and his daughter also put many miles on his bike by attending rallies together for over 25 years. He never knew a stranger and was always known for picking up strangers at rallies and bringing them back to the camp site.

Vic is known by many for his volunteer work and the numerous organizations he belonged to. He was a member of the Montgomery County Fair Association, Red Raven Boosters Club, ABATE of Kansas, Tornado Sideliners, Methodist Church, Key Stone Lodge 102, and SEK Bikers.

He was a dedicated family man and one of his greatest joys was watching his children or grandkids participate in their activities. He would drive miles to be at their games or performances. He coached for his son, Steve, in baseball from Pee Wee Leagues though American Legion Ball.

Vic attended Field Kindley High School and graduated in 1958. He also graduated from Coffeyville Community College in 1960. He attended KU for a year. He worked for Sherwin Williams for 4 years and then ended his professional career working with Farmland Industries for 35 years.

He was married to Jo Locke (Moomaw) for 63 years. They had two children, Steve (Robyn) Locke, who preceded him in death; and his daughter Vicky Jo (Pat) Berberick of Wichita, KS. He has one brother, Dick (Joan Locke) of Bixby, Oklahoma. His memory will also be cherished by 3 grandchildren Hunter and Hayley Locke and Zach Berberick and two Great Grand Children, Oakleigh, and Talon Locke. He had 6 nieces and nephews, Angie, Amanda, Andrea, Cara, Matt, and Andy.

Vic was known for sitting under his favorite shade tree on the driveway, with his cat in his lap, drinking a cold beer and waving to people as they honked and drove by. Now our Pops is a “Spirit in the Sky.”

A private service for the immediate family will be on Saturday, August 31st, 2024. A Celebration of Life for Vic will be held at their home, at 101 Lakewood Drive, from 1:30pm – 3:30pm under his favorite shade tree by the garage. Please bring a lawn chair. Feel free to ride your bike out, Pops would love that! Ford-Wulf-Burns in Coffeyville, Kansas has been entrusted with his service. A special thank you to Tollie Haymaker for helping the family during this time. In Vic’s honor, the family would request memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville or Specialized Hospice at 1861 N. Rock Rd #380 Wichita, KS 67206. Donations may also be left in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Friends may call to sign the register on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns from 10am to 5pm. Family and friends are welcome to leave a message of condolence or share a memory here on Vic's Obituary page.
