Vikas Deshpande

Vikas Manohar Deshpande, age 78, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at 10:51 PM, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 21, 1947, in Alibag, Maharashtra, India, Vikas lived a life defined by integrity, intellect, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Vikas was a man of remarkable transparency and straightforwardness; he spoke his mind with a rare honesty that was always tempered by a loving heart. A genuinely caring individual, he had a unique gift for making everyone feel at home. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a new acquaintance, his door was always open and his welcome was always sincere. His warmth made him a beloved figure among a wide circle of friends who will miss his steady presence and infectious spirit.

A man of great intellect and work ethic, Vikas dedicated his career to research and development within the personal care industry. His professional journey, which began at Lehn & Fink and culminated at Symrise, was marked by innovation and excellence. Before his retirement in 2013, he contributed to numerous groundbreaking projects and held five patents, a professional legacy that left an indelible mark on his field.

At home, Vikas was a whirlwind of productive energy. He found great joy in the rhythm of daily life, from meticulously tending to his landscape, cleaning, or fixing things around the house to cheering for his favorite team, the New York Yankees. Vikas' greatest achievement was his role as a father and his strong partnership with his wife, Padmaja, in raising their autistic son Mandar.

Vikas is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Padmaja; his sons, Mandar and Kapil; his daughter-in-law, Denise; his adored granddaughter, Alexandra; and his large extended family and community of friends.

His life was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and hard work. He will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught and the warmth he shared will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
