Vincent Blyden Obituary
Tallahassee, FL - Vincent Alfredo Blyden, 69, transitioned this earthly life on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Funeral services are 12 noon Wednesday, August 18, at the TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE CHAPEL (850-942-1950). A native of St. Thomas Virgin Islands, Mr. Blyden was a retired FAMU professor in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication (SJGC). Treasuring his love and legacy are his loving wife, Maggie Watson Blyden; brothers: Edward VII, Edwin, Ensworth, Edison, Errol, Irving and Vernon Blyden; sisters: Shirley, Pearl, Yvonne, Evalee, Lois, Karen, Maureen and Lynn Blyden, Clarice Clark, Corine Thomas and Elaine Hutchinson; and a host of other family members and friends. Vincent's sister, Edina Williams preceded him in death.

I worked with Vincent at Florida A&M University. He was a friend and colleague. Vincent was a hard working man that knew his profession very well, he always delivered what he promised and did a great job. Vincent was also a nice person with a good sense of humor. He is missed.

So sorry to hear this news!!! On a visit to St. Thomas, he gave me great advice of how to enjoy that visit.
Vincent was very helpful and he and Lamb, were very supportive of me; when I decided to go into the Printing Inks business. They used my products to print some FAMU Football Programs one year. He and Lamb were a good team in the FAMU Print Shop. He will be missed...

To the family of Prof. Blyden. My heartfelt condolences are with you. He is a bright light. I appreciated him from the first time I joined the SJGC in 2001. He was also a great instructor and mentor to my oldest son who matriculated in the Graphic Design program. He knew "his stuff." So many students-now grads are blessed to have his kind, thoughtful, skilled instruction. May peace come to you and know that his legacy is intact.

Blyden (as so many of his students affectionately called him) was a student-favorite amongst the great faculty in the FAMU graphic arts dept. I had the privilege to work with him for 3 years in the university pressroom in the work-study program. Blyden, Lamb and Sonny instilled so much life knowledge on me and even more laughs. I'm one of hundreds of (then) young people whose lives he touched. He'll always be remembered, loved and appreciated by more than he ever knew.

To know him was to love him. Soft spoken words of wisdom and knowledge is what he gave to everyone he met. He loved family. He especially loved his wife Maggie, who was the ying to his yang. He will be loved and missed by his Sisters and Brothers, Nieces and Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, Grand Daugher Sheqwena Watson, his great grand kids, and many close family friends, and associates.
