PITTSTON — Vincent John Insalaco, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 6, 2024, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of Leonardo and Concetta Scalzo Insalaco, and the youngest of eight children. Vince was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many, and known for his integrity, generosity and kindness. He had a dry sense of humor and loved cars, gardening, Italian food, golf and time with his family. He spent his last days surrounded by people who loved him, while he watched his Penn State Nittany Lions play (they won) and listened to music by the Eagles, since he wouldn't have a chance to see their concert, as planned, a week later.
Vince graduated in 1966 from West Pittston High School, and from Penn State University with a degree in industrial engineering in 1970. Upon graduation, he joined Leeds and Northrup Company, North Wales, Pennsylvania, as a project engineer, where he helped develop laboratory equipment.
In 1974, he returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania to become a partner in Insalaco Supermarkets, and expand the business along with his brothers Michael, Sandy, Leonard, and brother-in-law, Leonard Dixon. Together with his older brothers, they grew the supermarket chain to 14 stores in four counties across Northeastern Pennsylvania, along with corporate offices in Pittston. They sold the supermarket chain in 1993 to Penn Traffic, but retained ownership of the properties. The company also developed The Crossings factory stores in 1991, and expanded to 100 stores. In 2003, the company sold the outlet center to Chelsea Property Group.
He was active in many community organizations. He served on the president's council at Wyoming Seminary School, past chairman of Bowl for Kids' Sake, past chairman of the Recapitalization Campaign Committee for the YMCA in Pittston, member of the Fund-Raising Committee for St. Therese's Church in Shavertown, and served on the advertising committee for the Shur Save advertising group at Affiliated Food Distributors. He was a member of the Huntsville Golf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Providence Katarsky; brothers: Leonard and Michael; sisters-in-law: Dolores and Marlene; and brothers-in-law: John Burke and Leonard Dixon.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Corinne Eigen Insalaco; daughter, Kristen Morea (Joe), New York City; son, Vincent, Jr., Los Angeles, California; brother, Sandy Insalaco, Laflin; sisters: Carmella Dixon, Moosic; Theresa Burke, Pittston; and Grace Dvornicky (Joseph), Pittston; brothers-in-law: Norbert Katarsky, Harding; Keith Eigen (Kandi), Old Forge; sister-in-law, Lita Insalaco, Pittston; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, at Adonizio Funeral Home LLC, 251 William St., Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Pa.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital/ALSAC, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or online, a cause he loved to support.

Vince was a good friend. Vince, the late Santo Scalzo and myself would hang out together just after we graduated from college. We had many good times together. He was a great guy. He will be missed. Rest in peace and God bless.

Great local family. So sorry for your loss. The Insalacos hired me, fresh out of the military and needed a break in a tight job economy.
