Vincent George Katch passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on April 20, 2023.
Vince was born on April 12, 1928 in Lovilla, Iowa. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He moved to Des Moines and met his wife Lois on a blind date.
They were married in 1953 and had 7 children. He was employed at Firestone until he retired and then he worked part-time at Hy-Vee.
Vince loved Fishing, hunting, gardening, watching sports and most of all spending time with his large family. He was an animated storyteller with a great sense of humor. He was a devout catholic.
He was known as Papa to his grandkids and Great Papa to his great-grandkids.
Waiting to meet him in heaven are his wife Lois, son-in-law, Bob Hunter, along with his parents, three sisters, one brother and numerous family and friends.
Left to miss him dearly are his seven children: Karla Renda, Karen Hunter, Kim (Mike) Briley, Kurt (Kim), Kent (Kim), Kelly (Barbara), Keith (Cindy) Katch and twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.
On Saturday, April 29, a Celebration of Life for Vince will be held at St. Pius X Church, where he was a member and served as an usher for many years. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by visitation with mass at 11:30 and a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Vince's name to St. Pius X Church, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
