Vincent G. Matecheck, 80, of Massillon died unexpectedly January 22, 2025 of a massive brain hemorrhage, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Vince was born December 17, 1944 to the late Vincent and Loretta Matecheck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Matecheck and sister Donna Hanson.

Vince married Betty Schmader, the love of his life, September 12, 1970. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Maria (Robbie) Bettilyon, Lara (Joe) Arnold and Trisha (Jason) Hertvik and an adoring grandfather to seven grandchildren, Ruth, Steven, Nora, Eleanor, Beatrix, Kyle and Joel. Vince is also survived by his sister Margaret (Joe) Hunt of Wellesley, Massachusetts as well as many nieces and nephews.

Vince was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1963 and a member of the 1961 national championship winning Tiger football team; a memory that brought a tear to his eye every time he shared it. He was a graduate of Miami of Ohio Class of 1967. While in attendance, he joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was an active member up until his death. After graduating from the University of Akron School of Law in 1971, Vince established his law office and practiced as a respected Massillon attorney for 47 years. Additionally, he sat on the boards of the United Way, People's Federal Bank, Bordner's Grocery and Polymer Packaging, serving the community and forming lifelong friendships that he treasured.

Above all else, Vince was big hearted. Generous with both his time and treasures, he loved sharing music, wine, and good food with friends and family he held so dear.

The family will receive guests Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon, Ohio (330-833-3222), where a Celebration of Life to remember Vince will follow, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
