Vincent Patella Obituary

Vincent Anthony Patella, Jr., 67 of Pittsfield, passed away May 11, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center with his children by his side. Born at St. Luke's Hospital in Pittsfield on December 1st, 1956, he is the son of Vincent Anthony Patella, Sr., and Sara Morgan Patella.

He is a 1974 graduate of Taconic High School and a communicant of St. Anne's Church.

Mr. Patella, always a protector, served as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. He performed special duty in the HMX1 Helicopter Security Squadron under President Carter, who awarded Vincent with the Presidential Service Certificate for Honorable Service in the White House. He also worked as a Corrections Officer at the Berkshire County House of Corrections, and in security at the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires and the Berkshire County Museum. Most recently, Mr. Patella loyally served as a Court Officer for the Berkshire County Superior Court in Pittsfield from April 6, 1993 until his date of retirement on August 30, 2016.

Vincent was a true comedian whose "Vinny-isms" will live on with everyone who knew him. He had a profound love for music with a booming voice to match, and never missed an opportunity to sing along to Frank Sinatra or "the Boss." He was masterful in the kitchen and incorporated his pride for his Italian heritage into every meal he prepared. His faith became more important to him with each year that passed, and he prayed earnestly and daily for those that he loved. Most importantly to Vincent, his proudest accomplishment was raising his two children, and he always made sure they knew how special they were to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha "Sami" Patella, a physician in Santa Monica, CA, and son, Vincent "Sonny" Patella of Lenox, who is now raising Mr. Patella's first granddaughter, Xylia Patella. He also leaves his mother, Sara Patella of Pittsfield, his two sisters, Susan Patella and Kathleen Patella of Pittsfield, and niece Jamila Benkhoud. He leaves many other friends and family members, each of whom he cherished deeply. He was predeceased by his father, Vincent A. Patella, Sr.

If you have any stories, memories, or "Vinny-isms" to share, no matter how big or how small, please send them to Vincent's daughter Samantha Patella at [email protected].

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held THURSDAY, May 16, 2024 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Pittsfield. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Dearest Sara, Sami, and Sonny:
So very sorry to learn of Vinny´s passing. I was stunned and saddened when I came across his obituary in the Eagle. What a life he lived. From the early days when we both played sports at Clapp park to being in the same classes at both Crosby and Taconic HS, it was a privilege to have known him for all these years. We were not the kind of friends that hung around with each other on weekends, but when we would occasionally cross paths we would sit down and spend the time to catch up with each other´s lives. Ironically, we both served four years in the Marine Corps during the same time period without ever having a discussion about our intentions of being part of something bigger than both of us. And what a resume. Traveling to Egypt as security detail for President Carter for the Camp David Peace Accords. Talk about being able to witness history; I am humbled by his accomplishments. I wish you peaceful thoughts as you reminisce about your son and dad. Vinny, thank you for your service, all of it.

Samatha, Sonny & Family,
I was sadden to hear about Vinny. I have many fond memories working with him at the Courthouse over the years. Vinny always made a impression wherever he went. Sheriff's Department, The Trial Court. He was such a likeable guy who had a genuine arura that drew your attention to him.
A booming voice, A physical presence.
I would like to say his Vinny-isms were often displayed as only he could display them. He was so proud of Samatha, Sonny. He also loved being a Marine.

I remember being over His Aunt Lauras house for a picnic. She put on this Italian song
He stopped what he was doing, stood up, sang the song in Italian and acted out the words. He was a lot of fun to be around.
To the Patella family, so sorry for your loss. May his memories help you through.
