Vincent Mack Sumner age 86 of Nauvoo, IL passed away on September 10, 2024.
Mack was born on 04 October 1937 In Price, Utah to Vincent Melville Sumner and Fairel Clea Neilson. He married Jacqueline Evans of Bountiful, Utah on 09 June 1961 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mack graduated from Carbon High School, where he was active in basketball, skiing and speech. After high school he attended Carbon College and worked summers at Sun Valley, ski resort (Idaho) before serving in the West Central States LDS Mission (Montana/Wyoming). After his mission he served in the Utah National Guard and in 1963 he was awarded a BS degree from Brigham Young University. In 1969 he obtained a Masters Degree and in 1974 was awarded a Doctor of Education both from BYU. Mack was employed for 37 years by the LDS Church Education System and held a variety of positions in the Seminaries and Institutes Dept. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many church callings – former counselor in a stake presidency, stake executive secretary, high councilor, bishop, bishop's counselor, stake mission president and stake missionary, elder's quorum president, ward clerk, ward young men president, a teacher in various classes. CES coordinator, assistant recorder at the Nauvoo Temple, an ordinance worker at Chicago, St. Louis and Nauvoo temples, and was a Sealer at the Nauvoo temple. He was active in the Nauvoo Betterment Association and Nauvoo Seniors Organization. He and his wife served in the California San Fernando Mission in 2007-2009.
He is survived by his wife Jackie and three daughters: Kristy Seither (Steve) of Placerville, California; Kathy Sumner of Tustin, California; Kerrie Murphy (Tom) of Edmonds, Washington: and one son Raymond Vincent Sumner (Kate) Timnath, Colorado. He has 2 grand-daughters- Jessyca Murphy, Woods (Tim), Rachel Amador,1 grandson-Vincent Robert Sumner, 3 adopted grandchildren- Vannesa, Robert, and Jakob; and five great grandsons, Aiden, Trenton and Elias Amador, Hazen Sumner and Finnegan Murphy Woods. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Raymond Sumner.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 AM Tuesday morning at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Nauvoo. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, at the church with burial to follow in the Nauvoo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the children's section of the Nauvoo Public Library or the Nauvoo Orchestra.
