Obituary
In loving memory of Viola Mae Bumgardner,
April 17, 1938 to June 8, 2023
Viola, preceded in death by Prestess L. Marshall (Mother), Charles D. Martin, Sr. (Father), Donald Martin (Brother), Charles Martin, Jr. (Brother), Frances Cunningham (Sister), Loretta Carter (Sister), Lewis Byrd (Son).
Survived by Gloria Batte' (Daughter), Nina Byrd-Powell (Daughter), grandchildren (8), great-grandchildren (29), great great-grandchildren (2 known) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Viola born in Wilmington, Ohio. and raised a farm girl on a working farm in Blanchester, Ohio. She graduated from Blanchester High School then relocated to Columbus Ohio where she met and married Lewis Byrd Sr. She was referred to as "Vi" throughout her life and affectionally called "granny" by her grandchildren and by those she lovingly inherited and loved during her life.
Vi retired from State Auto Insurance in Columbus after twenty plus years of service. She came out of retirement to work for Scroggins in Cincinnati where she retired.
Vi, baptized at an early age and went on to become a loyal member of Metropolitan Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She will be remembered by those who knew her as a strong-willed, stubborn yet loving caring individual. She loved her family and always ended a conversation with "love you." Vi would do anything asked of her and was a thoughtful giving person, who always greeted you with a hug!
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, computer games. Casinos, watching her favorite television shows, but most of all drinking her coffee. She also had a fondness of cats and her most recent furry friend "Angel" stayed by her side till the very end.
Poem dedicated to Granny ~ by the grandchildren who loved her
If you should happen to hear
that an Angel from Heaven, did disappear
And the description fit my grandmother to a tee,
It would be no surprise to me Parents' love is a wonderful and
precious thing.
Grandparents' love is double portion of the same.
