Viola Chiles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Oct. 9, 2024.
Viola Ruth Chiles of Yukon, Oklahoma, was called Home to the Lord on October 7, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Avery, Oklahoma, on March 31, 1941, Viola was the daughter of William Frank McKinley and Myrtle Mae (Sisney) McKinley, both of whom have preceded her in death, along with four brothers – Dennis Wayne McKinley, Kenneth Earl McKinley, Carl Ray McKinley, and Bill Frank McKinley. She is also preceded in death by her son, Johnny Lee Chiles, daughter Tina Lynn Wood, and a grandson, Patrick Todd Chiles.
Left to cherish her memory are five children – Twila Brewer and husband Dewayne, LaDonna Bridges and husband Carl, Donald Chiles, Gary Chiles, and Michael McKinley; her siblings, Linda Prestriedge, Bertha Irene Bennett, Lorene Payne, and Ernest McKinley; 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Never shy to speak her mind, you never had to guess where Viola stood on the issues. A spitfire from the time she was able to speak, those closest to her say she was fiery, sassy, and bold, and was lovingly called "the smallest sibling, but the biggest boss." Her sweet, friendly disposition coupled with her daring personality and confident nature endeared her to pretty much everyone she met. She was generous, kind, and thoughtful, never forgetting her loved ones' birthdays, a testament to her impeccable memory.
She explored a variety of hobbies and passions throughout her life. A longtime member of the Assembly of God, her faith was a predominant force and a beacon of light in her life. She enjoyed working puzzles, especially crosswords and word searches, and reading any newspaper she could get her hands on. She liked to cook and eat her favorite foods which included meatloaf, chicken pot pie, her famous cornbread, and she loved to indulge in her sister Linda's homemade chicken enchiladas. Viola also loved sewing, fishing, listening to her favorite gospel and country music, following OKC Thunder basketball, and spoiling her dog, Hunter.
Though there were an abundance of things in life that made her happy, nothing brought her more pride and joy than her beloved family, all of whom she utterly adored. As we say our goodbyes, let us honor Viola's memory by carrying on her legacy of love. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

So sorry for this huge loss. Aunt Vi was a sweet and wonderful woman. She was so accepting and funny. Before my sister Kalynn passed away she would always make us smile and laugh when we were visiting Nana and our cousins Mariah and Celeste. Aunt Vi's memory will live on for generations. May she dance with all the angels in heaven.
