Viola started as a young woman working at Stelly’s in Lebeau as a waitress. When she met the love of her life, they settled in her hometown of Palmetto where they started their family. She helped her parents in their small community grocery store. Her children grew up and started families of their own. She could not contain her joy over having grandkids. There were plenty of hugs and the rocking chair did not stop. You would think once the great grandkids came along, she would have said, “Enough is enough”, “I am tired!”, “Oh, no!”, but she took care of them too with plenty of hugs and rocking. Not to mention how much she enjoyed feeding them. It didn’t matter if it was gumbo, red beans and rice or white beans and rice for breakfast, it was whatever they wanted. When she was blessed with a great-great granddaughter this past year, the rocking was a little slower, but the hugs were the same. From coloring with them, to playing board games with them, or just keeping her company, they kept her 95 years young, and she enjoyed every minute spent with them. Viola had a profound appreciation for the great outdoors. Her love for nature drew her to camping and fishing. In addition to her love for the outdoors, Viola possessed a keen mind that enjoyed the challenge of word puzzles. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she dedicated time each day to saying her Rosary, finding strength and comfort in her spirituality. She also had a fondness for culinary delights, particularly enjoying red velvet cake.
She is survived by her son, Bennett W. Morain (Mary) of Palmetto, La.; her daughter, Darlene M. Leger (Troy Sr.) of Palmetto, La., four grandchildren, Bridget Cutchall Stagg, Troy Leger, Jr., Brandon Morain and David Leger; eleven great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Gracie, Stephanie, Luke, Sydney, Jacob, Emily, Brandalyn, Brennon, Emerson and Genevieve; one great-great grandchild, Lakelyn and one step-great-grandchild, Brock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 71 years, Raymond Morain; her parents, Cilton Dupuis and Azelda Lejeune Dupuis; her daughter, Linda Morain Cutchall; her brothers, Fulton Dupuis and Titus Dupuis and her sister, Nolia Dupuis Sagnibene.
The family would like to extend a thank you to her caregiver, Joyce Goudeau, for the wonderful care that was given to Viola. Also, a special thank you to Brandalyn for taking such good care of her (although she still thought it was her taking care of you). From all of us, lots of love and hugs.
As we remember Viola Dupuis Morain, we celebrate a life filled with love, adventure, and a zest for the simple pleasures that life offers. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
