Viola Mowdy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Lacey on Jun. 21, 2024.
It is with great sadness the Mowdy Family announces our beloved Matriarch, Viola Bell Mowdy, has passed under the Flower Moon in the year of our Lord 2024. Born to Frank Alexander Mowdy and Lola Bell Bailey in Maricopa County, Arizona, on February 16, 1946, Viola was the oldest of five children. Viola Bell is a veteran of the United States Army and believed that a life spent serving others was one worth living. Our Mother's selfless-service philosophy ensured she lived a life filled with travel and adventure, and the love of her family and many friends around the world.
As a descendent of the Choctaw Chief Mushulatubbee, Viola Bell embodied the strong Indigenous can-do spirit that stood toe-to-toe against any foe and injustice, the same spirit she distilled into her lineage. Our Mother taught us a "never-give-up" attitude and believed that love is rooted in "grace, compassion, and understanding." These are characteristics we hope you too were able to glean from our Mother, and we hope she touched your lives as much as she touched ours.
Our Mother was a loving and kind woman who worked diligently to protect those she loved. She never hesitated to assist others in need, often to her own detriment. Viola lived a well-examined life and was not found wanting. She leaves behind four somewhat behaved children, nine beautiful grandchildren (more to come), and one amazing great-grandchild (more to come).
We will miss our great matriarch dearly, and we wish her a speedy journey to join our ancestors.
There will be a Celebration of Life on June 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Abundant Life Apostolic Church, 2220 Muirhead Ave. NW, Olympia, WA 98502. The service will be livestreamed at abundantlifeac.com/livestream/.
