Viola Brown Outland

Viola Brown Outland, 99, of Sunbury, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at her home. Born November 28, 1926 in Bertie County, she graduated from Lakeview School of Nursing. A faithful member of Damascus Christian Church, Viola served many roles, teaching the Youth Sunday School Class, serving as church clerk, president of Women's Fellowship, Sunday School clerk, and singing in the choir for over fifty years. Viola was the daughter of the late Isaac M. and Minnie Perry Brown, and wife of the late F.J. Outland, Sr. to whom she was married for 68 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa O. Dail and her husband, Broughton of Hertford and Cheryl O. Moore and her husband, Garry of Sunbury; two sons, Felton J. Outland, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Sunbury and Ed Outland and his wife, Kim of Bear Creek, NC; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Tracy Chappell for her many years of loving and dedicated care to F.J. and Viola.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10th from 6 to 8 pm in the fellowship hall of Damascus Christian Church, 84 NC Hwy 32N, Sunbury. A celebration of Viola's life will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11 am in Damascus Christian Church with Pastor Mark Wethington officiating. The family will have a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
