Viola Lorraine Powell, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 64 years, 7 months, and 22 days. Born on October 3, 1960, in San Jose, California, Lorraine was the daughter of William Soap Cochran and Rosie Lee (Lacy) Cochran.
Lorraine spent her formative years in the Leach and Rose communities of Oklahoma and graduated from Kansas High School in Kansas, Oklahoma. Lorraine went on to attend Rogers State College in Claremore and was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church.
During her time at Franklin Electric in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, that she met Albert Ward. The two shared nearly two decades together before Albert's passing in 2021. Throughout her life, Lorraine was known for her generosity, warmth, and strength. She worked for many years as a security officer at the Cherokee Casino in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, retiring in 2014.
Lorraine had a passion for writing and kept journals of her life. She delighted in visiting yard sales and thrift stores, always searching for thoughtful treasures to gift to others. Her giving heart was matched only by her deep love for her Chihuahua, Sassy, and her unwavering devotion to her family.
To her loved ones, Lorraine was the cornerstone-dependable, selfless, and steadfast. She cared for her parents and siblings and provided strength and comfort to many others through the years. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Lorraine is survived by: 2 children: Christy Gayle SpottedBear and husband Ian Scott SpottedBear of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and Amy Rose Allen and husband Kyle James Allen of Watts, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren: Drake Ryan Allen, Christian Michael SpottedBear, Ilena Abigayle SpottedBear, Ethan James Allen, and Gage Lee SpottedBear; 1 brother: Bennie Cochran of Kansas, Oklahoma; along with numerous extended family members and a host of dear friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosie Cochran; her husband, Albert Ward; two brothers, Ronnie Cochran and Morris Lee Cochran; and one sister, Barbara Dodge Dixon.
A memorial service to celebrate Lorraine's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, Oklahoma, with Brother Tommy Claxton officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Locust Grove Funeral Home.
