Violet M. Elek
Violet M. Elek was born May 8, 1929 to Rocco and Lena Gioffre. She was a life long resident of Lorain where she graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1947 B and was instrumental in most of the post graduate functions for 70 years plus. It was at Lorain High that she met her future husband, Richard Elek, a WW2 Navy Veteran who needed a "typing credit" for a college education under the GI Bill. They were married in August of 1950.
Never one looking for "kudos", she volunteered at the Lorain County VA Outpatient Clinic for almost 20 years. Violet was a longtime active member of the Italian American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary and its voluntary services, and the St. Peter Senior Group. She was also a lifelong parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.
Soon after high school, she was employed in the offices of THEW Shovel Koehring Company until they left Lorain in the early 1970's. Then she had a career at Broadway Feed and Pet Supply that lasted 32 years.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dominic and Frank Gioffre; sister, Marie Bonaminio; and beloved niece, Celeste Bonaminio Kelley.
Surviving her are nephews, Jungle Jim (Joani) Bonaminio and Rocco Gioffre; nieces, Virginia Eber, Janet Harrington, and Jane Looney; also loving and caring cousins, Alice Bagola and Maria Farshman.
Beloved friends, Aida and Jeffrey Ceh; nephew, Clarence (Vicki) Elek who have been a blessing and big part of her life in her waning years. Also Dale (Jill) Elek, Wayne Elek, niece, Diane Bungard. Godson, Mark Karendal, and her amazing neighbors Nelson and Sherry Colon, Tracey and Jada, and Elaine D'Andrea-without them Violet could not have remained in her home since 1956.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 12:00 PM with Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor officiating. Christian Burial services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
