Violet Mae Richards Hacker was born May 18, 1928 in McNairy County, TN, the daughter of the late Robert M. Richards and Lottie Pearl Howell Grantham. She departed this life on August 1, 2025 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 97 Years, 2 Months, 14 Days. She was the last living Selmer High School graduate, class of 1946.
On August 22, 1968, Violet found her partner in life, William H. "Bill" Hacker, with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing on September 29, 2008. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with love.
Violet was a member of the Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer, Tennessee. She retired after many years of service with Brown Shoe Company. Following her retirement, she continued to contribute her talents at Jagger's Kiddie Shop and later found fulfillment working at Tru Value Florist.
A gifted quilter, Violet found joy in crafting beautiful quilts that brought warmth and comfort to her loved ones. More than anything, she cherished her family, always eager to celebrate their achievements and support them through challenges. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her children: Jeff Walker and wife Teresa of Eastview, TN, Susan Hendrix and husband Bobby of Selmer, TN, Mollye Likins and husband Steve of Biloxi, MS; stepchildren: Mark Hacker of Clifton, TN, Lisa Vargason of and husband Steve of Bethel Springs, TN; sister, Vivian McCormick and husband Moe of Cleveland, TN; four brothers: Harold Richards of Savannah, TN, Jerry Richards of Memphis, TN, Bob Richards and wife Polly of Germantown, TN, Ronnie Richards and wife Jeannie of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Reggie Poindexter; five grandchildren: Jennifer Walker, Maranda Johnsonius, Daniel Walker, Jareth Vinet, Ashton Vinet; step grandchildren: Misty Cross, Marcus Hacker, Daniel Vargason; several great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hacker was preceded in death by sister, Veronda Poindexter; brother, Herbert Richards; sister-in-law, Jewel Richards.
