Violet Porter Smith, age 78 of Cherryville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at her residence. She was born April 16, 1945, in Horry County, to the late George Herman and Blanche Lavada Blanton Porter. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a fine Christian woman. Violet was a natural nurse who loved to take care of others. She was an LPN and was formerly employed with Carolina Care. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and was an excellent cook. Violet was a very loving person and always gave of herself to the betterment of others. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 40 years. She cherished her family and adored her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Roy Smith; sister, Joyce Borchert; and brothers, Cleveland, MD, Audie, and Larry Porter.
Survivors include her children, Sheila Smith Wyont (Bart) and Christopher David Smith (Nicole); grandchildren, Logan Wyont, Paige Wyont Barrack (Harrison), Landon Smith, and Madisyn Smith; great granddaughter, Nora Quinn Barrack; sisters, Anne Smith Haynes (Tommy), Gladys Oleberg, Marilyn Tyner, and Elaine Shannon; brothers, Merritt Porter (Saundra) and Roger Porter (Peggy); and sisters-in-law, Melinda and Joan Porter.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hendricks and Rev. Brad Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
