Graveside service for Virgie Burgess Johnson, 94, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in Greenacres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, September 16, 2024, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tristin Smith, Haden Smith, Noah Smith, Aiden Smith, Gary Wallis, Kenneth Wallis, Ronny Burgess, and Sonny Burgess.
Virgie passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Cleburne. She was born January 23, 1930, in Cleburne to Herbert Vergel and Katie Mae (Carlock) Burgess. Virgie married Don Gilbert Johnson on January 13, 1950, in Johnson County. She was very independent and loved gardening and working in her yard. She enjoyed watching games show, golf and tennis. Virgie was a loving mother and “Mimi” to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Virgie is survived by her daughter, Kathy Smith and husband Laney; grandchild, Tristin Smith and wife Jennifer; granddaughter-in-law, Vesper Smith; great-grandchildren, Haden Smith, Noah Smith, Jaycie Smith and Aiden Smith; siblings, Donald Ray Burgess, and Virginia Burgess Stepp.
Virgie is preceded in death by her husband, Don Johnson; son, Gayland Johnson; siblings, Janelle Johnson, Louise Wallis, Alene Davis, “Big Sonny” Burgess, Wendell Burgess, Leon Burgess; and grandson Derek Smith.
