Obituary published on Legacy.com by United Funeral Service, Inc. on Mar. 16, 2026.
Virgie Mae Skelton Reed passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on March 15, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Union County in New Albany, MS. Born on May 13, 1951, in Ashland, MS, Virgie was a beacon of love and warmth in the lives of all who knew her.

Virgie's life was characterized by her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith. She is survived by her loving husband, Ross Reed of New Albany, with whom she built a life filled with joy and compassion. Her legacy continues through her adored children, daughters Kerri Kleman (Mike), Melissa Hutcheson (Michael), and Kelly Walls (Charlie), as well as her cherished siblings, Linda Janes (Don) of Ashland, Anice Jones (Jack) of Ripley, Bernice Rogers of North Carolina, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren whom she adored. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, John L. Skelton and Maggie Lee Allen Skelton, and her treasured grandson, Collin Joseph Todd.

She worked at Creekmore Clinic as a medical coder, after retiring from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County as a medical coder for thirty plus years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany.

Virgie's love for cooking and baking was renowned, and she often expressed her affection through her delicious creations. Her remarkable skill in crocheting brought beauty into the world and into the homes of those she cared for. Shopping was more than a pastime for Virgie; it was an expression of her artistic flair and thoughtful nature, as she always sought out the perfect gifts for her family whom she loved deeply. Above all, Virgie's love language was her ability to nourish both body and soul through her cooking and baking.

Remembered as loving, thoughtful, and creative, Virgie's spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her kindness and generosity. The example she set for her family, friends, and community will not be forgotten, and the memories of her heartfelt laughter and gentle guidance will be treasured forever. Virgie Reed will be missed profoundly, but the love she shared will resonate for generations to come.

A visitation will be held at United Funeral Service on March 19, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Stanley Huddleston will officiate. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park.
