Virgil Otis Holt, born on November 25, 1936 in
Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. He lived a rich and fulfilling life spanning 89 years filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Virgil was the beloved son of Haywood and Clara Holt, who instilled in him the values of hard work, honesty, and compassion. He grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature, which fostered a lifelong passion for gardening, fishing, and hunting. Virgil's hands were never idle; he was an avid woodworker, creating pieces that adorned the homes of his family and friends, each crafted with love and care.
On January 29, 1955, Virgil married the love of his life, Katie Hogue. Their marriage, which lasted an extraordinary 71 years, was a testament to their deep commitment and love for one another. Together, they built a nurturing home filled with laughter, warmth, and a spirit of togetherness that would become the foundation of their family.
Virgil was a dedicated father and an adoring grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Katie; his children, Harold (Terry) Holt, Wanda (Dennis) Hammersley, Joyce Weidemann, and Judy (Timothy) O'Brien. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kevin (Wendy) Holt, Heather (Eddie) Watson, Kami (James) Cockey, Dennis (Dawn) Hammersley Jr., Jonathan (Lisa) Hammersley, Travis (Tieal) O'Brien, Kelly (Jeremy Woolery) O'Brien, and Hailey (Jeff) Moran; his 21 great grandchildren; as well as 11 great, great grandchildren. Each carries a piece of his spirit, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Virgil dedicated many years of his life to his career, retiring in 1999 from Inverness Castings Group in
Dowagiac, MI, where he served with pride in Quality Control. His work ethic and attention to detail were a reflection of his character, and he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Throughout his life, Virgil enjoyed the simple pleasures, finding joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. His laughter, wisdom, and guidance will be deeply missed but cherished in the heart of all who knew him. He was a pillar of strength for his family, teaching them the importance of love, togetherness, and perseverance.
As we say goodbye to Virgil Otis Holt, we celebrate a life well lived – a life filled with love, family and an unwavering spirit. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
