Gail Oiler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Starks & Menchinger Chapel - Saint Joseph on Mar. 13, 2026.
Gail Jean Oiler, 75, of Benton Harbor, MI was lifted from her earthly duties on March 11, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions directed to the Oiler Family would be appreciated.

Gail was a cherished sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved wife. A graduate of Lakeshore High School, Class of 1994, Gail dedicated her life as a stay at home mother to Karlis Hardesty of Jacksonville, NC, Keith Oiler of Goshen, IN, and Regena Oiler of Benton Harbor. Paul Oiler of Jackson, OH, took her hand in holy matrimony on the 22nd day of June 1975.

Gail's heart was so full of love, especially for her grandchildren, Ariona, Xena, Karlis Jr, Kristen, Nathan, Erin, Zoie, Megan, and Emi. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Justice, Elliott, and Gracelynn. Gail was also joyfully awaiting two great-grandchildren who will carry on her loving legacy.

Gail is survived by two loving brothers, Charles Merril of MO, Douglas Smith of Benton Harbor, and her sister, Deana Roetzel of Benton Harbor, to whom will cherish and remember her. Gail was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charles and Norma Smith; brother, Richard Merril; sisters, Sherry Dorris and Susan Lavanway; and her granddaughter, Mi'yah Oiler.

Gail's warmth, kindness, and devotions to her family will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

It is always difficult to lose a parent but especially a mother. May the God of all comfort be with you to ease the grief during this season .

Well Gail this is hard to swallow since I've known you all my life. You was a great friend and neighbor (well most of the time). We could fight and argue but in the end we were still friends. You always loved plants and flowers so I always gave you some of mine to cherish. You are now happy once again to be with all the loved ones that passed before you. I will always remember the times when you was so happy walking your first granddaughter around the block and how she was so polite with everyone she meet. That was one of your deeds you was going to teach them is respect With all this being said Fly high RIP love ya.

Aunt Gail had such a big heart and cared for everyone; her door was ALWAYS open. I could come and visit her at any time. Aunt Gail and Uncle Paul would welcome me into their home and we would laugh, worship and read the Bible together.

I will miss you, Aunt Gail. But because of our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ, I know this isn´t goodbye forever-we will see each other again.
