My favorite person! My condolences to the family. I´ve known your dad for years and years and always stopped in when in Dell wood. We had some great times, we even got him to drive us crazy girls around in his van . Good memories, my symphony

I remember Virgil as a strong union worker at the Red Cross. I worked in the building next door, at the DMV, and continue to be a frequent blood donor, but I also served 6 years on the Badger Hawkeye Blood Board of Directors.
Because Virgil and I were both delegates from our respective local unions to the Dane County Labor Council (now the South Central Federation of Labor), Virgil and I collaborated to bring back box trucks for blood deliveries; separating the drivers from the dry ice in the cargo. It seems that putting drivers in the same compartment with the dry ice that kept blood chilled from Madison to Chicago or Milwaukee or Green Bay or elsewhere was causing a bad safety hazard, because that carbon dioxide off gassing from the dry ice is an axphyxiant, rendering the drivers as woozy as if they had been drinking, even if the truck windows were open.
Because of Virgil´s attention and diligence, this issue was resolved before anything terrible happened.
I admired his leadership and respected his intelligence, integrity, how much he cared for the community. He was a good man, and the world is diminished by his passing.
I will announce Virgil´s passing at the next meetings of both the AFSCME Retirees and the South Central Federation of Labor, and request a moment of silence to acknowledge his service.
