Virgil Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith & Smith Funeral Home - Lexington on Jan. 16, 2026.
Virgil Irvine Smith departed this life on December 19, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Charles Irvine and Audrey Jenkins Smith. He leaves to mourn his brother, Gerald Edward Smith, San Antonio, stepsister, Donna Lee Davis, Aunt Sallie Madison; and his sister, Leadonia "Dee Dee" Jenkins, who preceded him in death and a host of nieces, nephews', cousins, other relatives and friends. Virgil was born October 18, 1968, in Lexington, KY. He was a faithful member of the East Second Street Christian Church, Lexington, KY.

Virgil attended and graduated from Lafayette Senior High School in Lexington Ky. Virgil went on to work at Connections that supported the employment and development of mentally challenged people. Virgil was employed there until his early 40's. Due to health issues, Virgil relocated to the Mayfair Manor Home in Lexington, Ky where he spent his remaining days.

Virgil was a fun-loving, caring man with a big heart and a huge curiosity for things. In his early years, he participated in various Special Olympic events. He loved bowling, playing the guitar, fish sandwiches, Pizza, Pepsi, movies, computers, and anything anyone had that twinkled or caught his eye. The one thing he coveted the most was his love for God and how grateful he was. He worshiped his mother, loved Dee Dee and his brother, Gerald. Virgil will be remembered as a devoted loving brother, strong in his faith, his humor, and his contagious smile. He was loved by his family and friends at Mayfair Manor and all who knew him.

"Virgil, you will be missed. You have suffered enough. Be free now, be at rest in the house of the lord. You're in God's hands now; Rest now, rest in peace." – Gerald
