Virgil L. Wasserman
June 18, 1939 - February 10, 2026
Virgil L. Wasserman, 86 years of age, of Fairbury passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Jefferson Community Health and Life Gardenside in Fairbury.
He was born on June 18, 1939 at Odell to Adam "Butch" Jr. and Cena (Lottman) Wasserman. Virgil graduated from Diller High School in 1958 and soon after, married Phyllis Rempel on June 8 that same year. He drove a truck for John F. Rempel from 1958 to 1971 before buying the business and operated Wasserman Trucking for almost 50 years. Virgil was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairbury where he served as a deacon, trustee and chairman of men's fellowship and the Fairbury Elks Lodge. He enjoyed boating, skiing, trucking, racing, sports and watching his grandchildren's activities.
Virgil is survived by his sons, Mark and wife Cathie of Beatrice, Bruce and wife Denise of Fairbury; daughter, Mary Wilson and husband Steve of Wymore; grandchildren, Shawn Ebeling and wife Alicia, Eric Ebeling, Angie Allen and husband Nick, Brendon Stigge and wife Jacklyn, Adam Wasserman and significant other Regan Deckinger, Craig Wiedergreen and wife Mandy, Jessica Johnson and husband Alex; great grandchildren, Hannah, Cole and Lily Ebeling, Leiah and Dakota Allen, Callen Stigge, Kaaden, Serenity and Anaya Wiedergreen, Carl and Wayne Johnson; great great-granddaughter, Luci; sisters-in-law, Colleen Detter and husband Jim of Papillion, Janie Rempel of Bloomington, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis on September 26, 2021; sisters, Carol Saathoff, Denise Hoffman and husband Jim; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Rempel, Les Rempel and Larry Rempel.Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 16, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Dale Pracht officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairbury Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 PM Sunday, February 15, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury.
