Virginia Baker, 83, was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to rest and to be reunited with her beloved husband, C.R. Baker on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Virginia's life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Stamford, TX. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 9th from 6 to 7 p.m. for a time of visitation with friends and family.
Virginia was born August 27, 1941, in Stamford, TX to the late Clarence and Naomi (Marsh) Woods. She was a lifetime resident of Stamford where she also received her formal education. Virginia was united in marriage to C.R. Baker on November 8, 1962, in Stamford, TX. C.R. proceeded Virginia in death on December 12, 2009.
Virginia had a servant's heart and found her calling in life by helping and caring for people through private sitting and housekeeping. She enjoyed sharing her culinary skills, hosting her family for the holidays and making her famous buttermilk pies. Her family was of the utmost importance to her being a wife, mother, and "nanny/grandma" to her grandchildren.
Virginia became a woman of faith early in her life as a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She later served at Solomon Temple Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and for 25 years, she also served in the West Texas Progressive District.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter, Kimberly Davis, 3 sons Kary Paul Baker, Charles Baker and Lavert Williams, 1 brother, Clarence Woods, Jr. and 1 sister, Sarah Gardner.
Survivors include her children: Ray Williams (Linda), Carolyn Applin, Ronald Baker, Sr. (Gwen), Victor Davis, all of Stamford, TX, Eric Jones, of DFW, and a special son, Bradley Davis of the Metroplex; 2 sisters: Glenda Standifer of Stamford, TX, Bertha Owens (Robert) of Winters, TX; 4 daughters: Tracey Archie (Glenn) of Odessa, TX, Remona Masterson (Jeff) Dallas, TX, Sylvia Davis of Dallas, TX, Dominique Draughan (Robert) of Odessa, TX; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
