Virginia Branstetter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St. on Feb. 3, 2026.
Virginia Maxine (Froedge) Branstetter, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026. She was born on July 23, 1933 in Monroe County, Kentucky, the oldest child and only daughter of Oval and Nina (Kidwell) Froedge.

Maxine was married to Cletus D. Branstetter for 71 years before his death in 2023. She lived most of her adult life in Louisville where she was a member of Westport Road Church of Christ; when she and Cletus relocated to Lexington, they became members at Southside Church of Christ, making new friendships in their Seniors Group. Maxine loved to sew and cross stitch and was happiest in her kitchen, lovingly preparing meals for her large family. Her chocolate pies were most requested, and the recipe was passed down to every granddaughter.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Cass Thomas. She is survived by her five children: Don (Debi), Larry, Cheryl (David), Neal (Remy) and Kim (Greg); a brother, Tim (Toni) Froedge. Her greatest joy was spending many summer days with her 11 grandchildren when they were youngsters and snuggling her 16 great grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Maxine will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 06, 2026, at Southside Church of Christ, 1533 Nicholasville Road, Lexington, Kentucky 40503. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation at the church prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

A graveside service will take place at Monroe County Memorial Lawn in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, at 1:00 p.m. EST (12:00 p.m. CST), Saturday, February 07, 2026. Maxine's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maxine's name to the Southside Church of Christ Missionary Fund or to Bluegrass Care Navigators.
