Virginia “Anne” Cheatham, of Marietta, peacefully completed her life on earth at the age of 93, on Friday, April 12, 2024. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home, with Dr. Sam Matthews officiating.
Mrs. Cheatham is preceded in death by her husband, Ottis Cheatham, and her parents, Tom and Mae Croft. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jill Cheatham of Marietta, granddaughter and husband, Carolynn and James Goerke of Smyrna, granddaughter and husband, Katherine and Wayne Zhou, great-grandchildren Aeris and Lukas Zhou, all of Marietta, several nieces and nephews, and long-time friend and caregiver, Marva Samuels.
Born and raised in Cartersville, GA, Mrs. Cheatham was a graduate of Cartersville High School and Marsh Business College in Atlanta. After graduating, she worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Cartersville. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Ottis. They were married 61 years. In 1955, they moved to Smyrna, GA, where they lived for 49 years before moving to West Cobb for their last few years. She worked at Lockheed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1974, she became a legal secretary and worked for Dupree, Rodrigues, and Moore until she retired in 1990. After moving to Smyrna, Mrs. Cheatham was a faithful member of Smyrna First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked in Children’s Worship. After retiring, Mrs. Cheatham enjoyed square dancing, reading, traveling with her husband, and caring for her family. Her joy and treasure are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home, located at 2480 Macland Rd, Marietta, GA 30064. The Funeral Service will proceed in the attached Chapel at 1:30 p.m. The internment will immediately follow at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery at 2000 Cobb Parkway S, Marietta, GA 30060.
