Virginia Cory Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hultgren Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Wheaton on Jan. 2, 2026.
Virginia Cory, age 92, long time resident of Wheaton, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She was born January 1, 1933 in Usquepaugh, RI to Calvin and Cassie Rockwood. Ginny and her five siblings grew up on a farm in rural Massachusetts. After graduating high school, she bravely left Foxboro to attend the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Friends later encouraged her to move to Wheaton where she married and had two daughters. Ginny worked many different jobs allowing her to use her bookkeeping skills including a number of years at AT&T and ending at the DuPage county assessor's office, where she worked until the age of 72. She was an active lady who some may have described as fiesty! She was a constant source of entertainment to her family with her spunky attitude and funny sayings. Many times, if you were discussing an activity that would have included her participation, she would reply "NOT TODAY" in her New England accent. She was well loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters Rebecca Cory (David Ropinski), Ruth (Terry) Armstrong; her granddaughters, Rachel (Tom) Pursel, and Megan (Alex) Johnson; her great grandchildren, Cora, Tommy, Elaina, Eden, Cody and Wesley; and her brother, Irving Rockwood, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Richard, and Thomas, and her sisters Beverly and Eleanor.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
