Virginia Dunn Obituary

Virginia Dunn

July 25, 1945 - September 5, 2025

Virginia "Ginny" Dunn, 80, of East Moline, Ill., passed away Friday September 5, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice House, Peoria, Ill.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 9th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, September 8th, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, her family would appreciate memorials be made to Animal Aid Humane Society, Moline, an animal shelter of your choice, or to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice House, Peoria, Ill.

Ginny was born July 25, 1945, in Canton, Ill., the third of eight children born to Tom and Dorothy (Morris) Batterton. She was raised on a farm in rural Mt. Sterling, Ill., graduating from Brown County High School.

Ginny moved to the Quad Cities in 1966. She was a waitress before getting a job in the cafeteria at the Rock Island Arsenal. She retired in 2008 after 25 years of service.

Ginny had one big accomplishment in life. She took great pride in raising three fine sons as a single parent. It was a lot of hard work; she was known to work two to three jobs at times. But she would always say those were the best years of her life. She made many fond memories even though it was challenging at times.

Ginny enjoyed cooking, sewing, country music, going to the Y, and watching her favorite soap opera.

Survivors include her sons, Rick Dunn, of Hillsdale, Ill., Roger Dunn, and his wife Heidi, East Moline, Ill., and Russell Dunn, and his wife Theresa, Hillsdale, Ill.; two granddaughters, Leah and Taylor; two grandsons, Morgan and Collin; great-grandson, Kye; stepdaughter, Carol (Joe) Hollbrock, Quincy, Ill.; four brothers, Richard Batterton , Don (Deb) Batterton, Charles (Kathy) Batterton, and David Batterton; two sisters, Pat Little, and Linda Lipcamon, all of Illinois; sister-in-law, Carol Batterton, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Dorothy; twin sons, Ronald and Donald, in infancy; brother, Gene Batterton; and her beloved special four-legged "daughter," Tori.
