Virginia "Ginny" Craver Good

Virginia “Ginny” St. Clair Craver Good, 77, of Charleston, S.C. entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2024. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 3-5 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street. Her memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Michael’s Church, 71 Broad Street, at 11:00 a.m. An interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Family and friends will be invited to a private reception following the burial. 

Ginny was born on November 6, 1947, in Charleston, S.C., the oldest of four children, to the late Jane Honour McDonald Craver and William Everett Craver, Jr. She grew up in Charleston where she attended Charleston Day School and Ashley Hall and graduated from Converse College in 1969 with a B.A. in history. Ginny met the love of her life, Joe Good, a student at Wofford College, as a senior in high school and they married upon her graduation from Converse. While Joe finished law school at USC, Ginny taught high school history. After a tour with the army in Virginia, they returned to Joe’s hometown of Columbia where their two children were born and they lived for ten years. When the opportunity arose for them to move to Charleston, Ginny was elated to return to her beloved Charleston where they have lived for more than four decades. Ginny spent the majority of her career in fundraising and development for private schools and non-profits including Director of Development for Trident Academy; Executive Director of The Library Foundation of Charleston; Executive Director of The Christian Family Y; Director of Alumnae and Parent Relations and Special Events at Ashley Hall as well as Assistant Director of Development. She was baptized and confirmed at First Scots Presbyterian Church where she served in many ministries and as a Deacon and Elder. In 2012, Ginny, Joe and their two adult children were confirmed at St. Michael’s Church and have been active in many areas of the church including Ginny’s devotion to St. Michael’s prayer ministry, a powerful and healing lay practice. Her steadfast love of the Lord never ceased and she contributed to opening the hearts of others to receive the will of God. Ginny knew that “the war is won in prayer and Thanksgiving and the battle belongs to God.”

Ginny was an active member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of South Carolina and served in many roles including Chair of the Lowcountry Town Committee. She was a lifetime member of the French Huguenot Society and the Society of First Families of South Carolina 1670-1700. She was a member of the Junior League of Charleston, The Rotary Club of Charleston, The Ladies Benevolent Society and served on both the Converse College and Ashley Hall alumni association boards. She was the 1989 recipient of the Dewar Gordon Holmes Distinguished Alumnae Award at Ashley Hall. Ginny was a founding member of The Charleston Cotillion and served the Charleston community in multiple leadership roles and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph Cole Good, Jr., her daughter, Katharine Good Gordon (Billy), and her son, Joseph Cole Good, III (Liz); her three grandchildren who affectionally called her “Fancy,”-Frederick Walker Festner, Joseph Cole Good, IV, and Caroline St. Clair Good; her three siblings, Ellen Craver Young, Jane Craver Izard, William Everett Craver, III (Elizabeth) and brother-in-law, Williams Benjamin Good (Diane); beloved nieces and nephews Cecilia Good, Danna Good, Caroline Young, William Young, Jane Izard, Anne Izard, Edward Izard, Jr., Katharine Izard Hoffman, William Craver, Sam Craver, John Craver; her aunt Sylvia Craver Harvey and uncle Hope Craver; and a multitude of cousins and relatives.
