Virginia Ann Grube
August 19, 1923 – July 10, 2022
Virginia (Ginger) Grube, age 98, finished her journey peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2022. Ginger always nurtured her family and friends and thought of others needs first. She was a devoted Christian and embraced her faith. Ginger was born on a Sunday and passed away on Sunday so she is truly blessed in God's sight.
Ginger grew up in Jayton, Texas, and graduated from high school there. She also attended school in Denton where she met her husband, Carl. Ginger and Carl were married during World War II in 1943. They lived in Denton and moved to Dallas in 1958 where they both spent the remainder of their lives. Ginger and Carl were married for 59 years until his passing in 2002.
Ginger was an excellent homemaker, and her house was always welcoming. She was an elegant and fashionably dressed lady. She was homecoming queen in the Jayton alumni parade and did modeling at her independent living facility. Ginger had a special talent for sewing and in addition to making her own clothes sewed for her daughter and granddaughter. Ginger took oil painting lessons. Her best painting was tomatoes in a basket which was very realistic. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and maintained a beautiful yard.
Ginger was an active member at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, and the Harmony Sunday School Class. She was a Women's Circle leader and an officer in the Altar Guild. She and Carl were members of the Swingin' Saints Square Dance Club for 30 years. They made lifelong friends through the club and went on group trips. Ginger was very athletic. She played basketball, tennis, and baseball in high school and made the first team on all of them. After she was married she took up golfing and bowling. Ginger bowled an almost perfect game of 278 in a bowling league, with all strikes except for one spare. She enjoyed cruising and traveling. Some of her memorable trips were Hawaii, New Orleans, Niagara Falls, Alaska, Greece, Canada, and England.
Ginger's family came first. Spending holidays with her family and being with her grandchildren was a great source of joy to her. She had a tremendous influence on her grandchildren's lives by being with them as infants and picking them up after school. Ginger had such good times with them feeding the ducks, cooking special treats, and playing in the hot tub. She especially enjoyed playing dolls with her granddaughter, Lauren.
Ginger had a lively, determined, and energetic spirit which will live on.
Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Grube, her parents, a brother, 3 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law, and a grandson.
Left to honor Ginger are her two children, Richard Grube and Susan Beyer; her granddaughter, Lauren Beyer; her two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wester and Evelyn Hartwell; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30 at 1:00 at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church.
Memorial gifts may be made to: Walnut Hill United Methodist Church.
