The family honored her wishes for cremation, and a private inurnment was held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Whiteville, TN on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with Chaplain Mark Pendergrass officiating.
Virginia dedicated 28 years of her life as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Crestview, where she was known for her compassionate care and unwavering commitment to her patients. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of many, helping a lot of people during her time in this rewarding profession.
Her family has been a central part of Virginia's life. She loved spending quality time with her Pittman family, especially during the holidays, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever. Virginia is survived by her devoted nephew, Bart Watson, who was not just a relative but a caretaker who brought her comfort and support. She is also remembered fondly by her nieces, Elizabeth Evans and Dawn Hankins, along with a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. In her heart, Virginia held a special place for those she raised as her own: Jennifer Williams, DJ Parker, Kayla Williams, and Elizabeth Martin.
A true lover of music and film, Virginia found joy in the music of George Strait and the cinematic charm of Elvis movies and his music and Patrick Swayze films. Moreover, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including her cherished habit of smoking cigarettes.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Catie Rodgers with Beacon Hospice for the compassion and care provided to Virginia during her final days.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Pittman Watson; her husband, Herbert Hayes; and her nephew, Bret Watson. As we remember Virginia, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, dedication, and the kind of warm memories that will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew her.
